Frequently Asked Questions

How can I make a payment?

Our office accepts the following means of payment:
  • Recurring credit/debit card payments, which carry a 4% processing fee (for example, a $100.00 payment is $104.00)
  • PayPal, which carries a 3.2% processing fee (for example, a $100.00 payment is $103.20)
  • Personal check
  • Certified bank check
  • Money order
  • Cash
  • Automatic bill pay, set up through your bank

Our office does not accept call-in credit/debit card payments. If you are using a credit or debit card, you must make a recurring payment and sign the authorization form.

Why is there a freeze on my bank account?

A garnishment has been filed on your bank account. Until this office receives the confession of assets (also known as “answers”) from your financial institution, we will not be able to take action regarding releasing the account.

Should you wish for us to contact you once these answers have been received, please contact us and leave your contact information for us to reach you.

When will my bank account be released?

Once your bank has been served with the garnishment, your bank has up to 30 days to provide a response (the confession of assets or answer). Once that has been received, we will either file a Consent to Disburse, a Line of Release or a Request for Judgment-Garnishment. However, we will not do so prior to receiving the response from your bank.

How much money will be coming out of my paycheck with a wage garnishment?

Garnishments in Maryland allow for 25% of your net pay (the amount you bring home) to be garnished.

How can I set up payment arrangements?

You may call our office at (410) 363-2355 or complete the payment information sheet and return it to our office. Once received (and the arrangements are accepted), you will receive a letter from our office memorializing the arrangement.

If I pay my account in full by check or credit card, why is there a week or two before my file will be closed out?

To ensure that all payments clear, our office waits this amount of time. Should you wish for your file to be closed immediately upon your last payment, you may provide payment by cash, money order or certified check.

What are your hours of operation?

We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Should you choose to drop off a payment outside of these hours, there is drop slot at the bottom of the door.
